AgingSafely.com is pleased to sponsor a workshop by Dr. Mary Shelkey

Workshop Description

Understanding and providing optimal care to older adults can be very challenging for Adult Family Home owners and staff.  It is important to understand that care of older adults is determined by the prevailing standard of care.  Who determines and what those prevailing standards of care are can be very confusing.  This workshop will define what a standard of care is and will address specific geriatric conditions that are determined by the prevailing standards of care.  Those conditions include pain management, falls, nutrition/hydration, restraints, siderails, skin care, mobility and fall prevention, incontinence, elder mistreatment, and advance directives.  This workshop will address how local, state, and federal statutes and regulations influence standards of care.  How standards of care influence civil and criminal lawsuits will also be discussed.
